DSL Winter Newsletter 2024

We’ve reached the end of another busy term at DSL. We want to take the opportunity to wish everyone a peaceful, warm and fun-packed holiday!

2023 has been a year of achievement and refurbishment.

In our last newsletter we mentioned that our home, Grange Court, was being renovated. We can now happily announce that the work is finished, and the place is looking great, as you can see below.

As always, we are proud to report on some of the work our talented Alum have been busy with over the last couple of months. Read on for more details. In this newsletter, we also bring you all the latest news of our in-house activity from Panto Tours to Industry talks.

Our 2023 graduates had their university graduation in November. Congratulations to all of you on your academic achievements! We can’t wait to see what you do next. Please stay in touch!

Time flies at DSL. Here’s to a bright, busy, positive and very happy New Year for everyone in 2014!

INDUSTRY VISITS:

We are always grateful when industry professionals make the time to drop in for a Q&A with our students and we host several of these events each term.

In the last couple of months, we welcomed award winning playwright Ché Walker. He shared his experience of acting, writing and directing with us. You can read an interview on our website here.

We also recently had the opportunity to meet Simon Cryer; Creative Director and owner of Damn Good Voices, a specialist voiceover and MOCAP agency and recording studio. Our students heard all about the industry and had the benefit of Simon’s advice and insight. You can read about Simon here.

GRADUATION

Congratulations class of 2023! We are so proud of you and look forward to celebrating all of your future successes.

The BIG graduation ceremony was held at Twickenham Stadium on 28th November. Read our Director’s words about the event here.

ALUMNI NEWS

Trap90 Theatre was founded by MFA 2023 graduates: Maria Wold, Mel Merz and Georgia Brooke-Hitching. They restaged their award-winning show House of Hysteria (first devised at DSL) at the Vanguard Theatre, Camden for a 5-day run back in October. Then they were back in November with their Chaotic Cabaret at the Riverside Studios.

Five DSL Alum were among the acting, writing and directing credits on a new dark comedy Wifi-Sexual at The Bridge House Theatre. Congratulations to Tom Hodgson, Harrison Trott, Holly-Anne White, Lewis Jenkins and Lauren Whitehill on this venture!

Two DSL alumni, Jon Cobb and Charlotte Gascoyne are in the cast of Freckle Production show Stick Man in the West End this season. And it looks like a lot of fun!

Husband and wife team and 2005 DSL graduates Rachel McPhee and Robert K. Benson are bringing panto to New York this December! Sleeping Beauty – 2nd & 9th December at Caveat on the Lower East Side. The show is also available to stream, you can book here.

APPLICATIONS, AUDITIONS AND OPEN DAYS

Applications opened for our BA Hons course in October (MA/PG and MFA applications are direct so open all the time!) and the new season of auditions is upon us. We can’t wait to meet the next wave of talent. Details of our courses can be found here.

The part-time courses are ticking along, and the most recent group shared their work with an invited audience last week. If you know someone looking for a taste of DSL, please encourage them to consider joining us for a term of skills workshops and confident performance practice. You can find out about our part-time courses here.

The next Open Day dates are announced. Please share this out to anyone looking to apply for training so they can get an insight into student life at DSL. You’ll find the full details here.
