Drama Studio London graduates confident actors, comfortable in the skills necessary to secure regular, quality acting work. We have an exceptionally high success rate in the profession amongst alumni from all our courses. Alongside modern training, we thoroughly immerse the student in the traditional skills of classical language, with particular reference to voice. Each full-time course covers all aspects of the modern actor’s professional needs. It is a classical training for today’s profession.
In 1966 we launched our 1 Year Diploma in Professional Acting, which has now become the hallmark of our training, designed to give a practical, skill-based education to those already with a degree or life experience. The course is intense, fast-paced and demanding. Our 2 Year Diploma in Professional Acting was later introduced to offer our vocational style of training less experienced actors and to those who benefit from a more relaxed learning pace.
In October 2016, we began an exciting new chapter in DSL’s history, to offer a full-time three year BA (Hons) degree course in Professional Acting. Originally, with De Montfort University, our BA degree course is now validated and awarded by, our partners, the University of West London (UWL). The degree is a perfect choice for those wanting to access practical training with a recognised, academic qualification. Additional paperwork to the 1 & 2 Year Diplomas is required, but the teaching veers away from the traditional lecture-hall style of established universities.
In 2020 we are introducing our new postgraduate level MFA in Professional Acting with Independent Production. Our MFA aims to produce highly skilled and independently thinking professional actors who can confidently shape a sustainable career in the diverse and continually evolving Performing Arts. Validated and awarded by the University of West London the MFA provides advanced actor training, alongside rigorous academic study and performance research, and includes two international residencies. Rather than a written thesis, modules in Independent Production culminate in a researched, fully-realised production in recognition that today’s actor must also create work.
