Established actors, Crystal Yu and Jimmy Akingbola provided an abundance of inspiration to Drama Studio London actors by talking about their journeys into the profession, the difficulties they overcame, working internationally and some of the highlights of their careers to date. They spoke with honesty and passion about their personal experience, especially with issues surrounding representational inequality, making their message clear that actors need a sense of self, of authenticity and playfulness.
Both actors had a wealth of experience to draw from across live theatre and recorded media providing advice about a range of topics from that all important relationship with your agent, adapting to different working environments, to working on soaps and thinking about your complemented talents beyond acting. Crystal has successfully directed short films and Jimmy is a respected producer for TV and the founder of TCN (TriForce) the inspiration behind MonologueSlam and WriterSlam.
We just wish there had been a little more time to quiz Crystal about her latest Netflix series and ask Jimmy about working alongside Idris Elba.
“A generous and refreshingly honest account of unique journeys both as individuals and actors in the industry.” - Oliver Welby (1 Year DSL Diploma)
