Laurence Olivier Bursary 2025 Recipient for DSL

We are very pleased to announce that Joe Conteh (referred to as Joseph Koroma in the linked article below) from the BA in Professional Acting programme has been awarded a Laurence Olivier Bursary, facilitated by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT). The Theatre Development Trust have awarded the 38th Laurence Olivier bursaries to exceptional drama school students, providing them vital financial support to champion the next generation of acting talent.

The Laurence Olivier bursary is awarded to trainee actors who demonstrate exceptional talent, in addition to taking into account any financial considerations.

Joe said: I feel so honoured to have been given the chance to perform to executives within our industry, on a west end stage and represent DSL to the best of my ability. This opportunity allowed me to push my limits and grow not only as an actor but as a person!

DSL is enormously proud of Joe for achieving this commendation which will practically assist the further development of his talent and potential as he works on his third-year projects and performances before graduating in 2026 with his BA (hons) in Professional Acting validated by the University of West London.

Previous recipients of these awards include Michael Sheen, Michaela Coel and Ewan McGregor. You can read about the 2025 awards on the SOLT website here.

Throughout the year, the DSL team secure a range of industry focussed, external bursaries to support students. Actors who demonstrate exceptional talent and attitude to training are shortlisted and personal circumstances are taken into consideration.
