Applications
When is the application deadline?
We don’t have an official deadline. Please check our website for updates on the submission of applications. If for any reason applications have closed by the time that you apply, you may still be given the opportunity to audition and be placed on the waiting list.
Is there an upper age limit?
No. We accept individuals of any age who have the potential and passion to train.
Do I need to do an IELTS test if I hold a pre settlement status and have previously been to a UK university?
If you hold a pre settlement status, you won’t need to do an IELTS test. If you need a CAS for visa, you will need to get a SELT (UKVI Academic) unless you already hold a degree that was awarded by a UK university.
Are there age requirements for the courses?
Applicants should be 18 or over.
Auditions and Offers
What do I need to prepare for my audition?
We have a digital first round and an in-person second round. You can read the full details of what’s needed here.
When will I get a recall audition?
We aim to audition you as soon as possible after you have been accepted for a recall. We will offer a range of dates to help you with your planning.
When do recall auditions take place?
Recall auditions usually take place on Saturdays. Occasionally auditions will take place during the week, in the months of August and September.
Do you hold auditions outside of London?
First round auditions are digital as part of our commitment to widening access to actor training. Recalls take place on site in London. This is also an opportunity for you to meet us in person and get a feel for the school. Occasionally we offer outreach auditions around the UK and abroad. If you are an international student and are unable to travel, we will arrange a recall audition online.
If I do not attend my audition will my application fee be refunded?
The application will only be refunded if you withdraw your application prior to booking an audition.
Can I rearrange my audition?
Yes. If for any reason you cannot attend the audition please let us know at least 2 days beforehand, and we can reschedule a later date.
What if I am ill on the date of my audition?
We will do our best to accommodate you on a different audition day. Please let us know you are not able to attend the audition as soon as possible by calling the main office on 020 8579 3897 and leaving a message.
Do you offer audition feedback?
Feedback is available upon request.
What happens when I am offered a place?
We will send you an offer agreement and contract documents by email which you will need to sign and return to us.
Is my place held for me?
Yes, your place is held for a set period. Your offer letter will state a deadline date by which you need to make a decision. Once this deadline has passed your place will become available to other waiting list candidates.
Can I defer my start date?
Every year, DSL is oversubscribed with applications to study with us.
In order to have an accurate measure of how many potential places are available via auditions and which places have been taken by confirmed deferrals, a deposit is required before a deferral place is secured. This deposit must be paid prior to the admissions process of the following year.
A deferred offer is valid for approximately one year – up to the start of the next admissions process (usually September of each year). Deferred applicants are not required to re-audition in the first round but will need to participate in a second-round audition if their place has not been secured with a deposit. This will be confirmed by email.
Fees
Can I pay my fees by monthly instalments?
Yes, you can set up a payment plan via UWL finance team on 0208 280 0283.
Student Life
Do you provide accommodation?
We do not have our own accommodation. As we are partnered with the University of West London you are eligible to apply for their halls of residence. Many of our students rent together in the local area.
Do I get bank holidays off?
Yes, as standard practice, bank holidays are not teaching days.
Will it be possible to have a part-time job?
Yes you can find part time work, particularly in the evenings and weekends but you need to be aware that there are some evening and weekend rehearsals and activities. These are most prevalent in your final year of study. We aim to give you as much prior notice about these additional commitments as possible.
Do you have onsite parking?
We have a small staff car park. Students are required to make other parking arrangements. In exceptional circumstances they may ask the office for parking permission.
