Lionel Bart Foundation Award 2025 Recipient KJ Adams

At DSL, we have the opportunity to apply for some industry specific bursaries and scholarships to support our students. You can read about these here.

We recently received the great news that our MFA student, KJ Adams, has received support from The Lionel Bart Foundation following our submission.

The Lionel Bart Foundation Bursary Award nurtures emerging talent and is named after the musical theatre artist famed for writing the show Oliver! (1960) and his work alongside theatre director Joan Littlewood at Theatre Royal, Stratford East. Lionel Bart understood the importance of nurturing young talent. The Foundation provides financial assistance to undergraduate and postgraduate drama school students at critical moments in their training, when being able to focus fully on developing one’s talent is paramount before entering the profession.

He said of the award: ‘To be honoured with this bursary award is a privilege all in itself. Thank you so much to everyone at Drama Studio London for believing in me, supporting me, and nominating me. And a special thanks to the Lionel Bart Foundation for seeing me and supporting me as an actor here in England.”

KJ has already gained a professional credit as he had the opportunity to join the cast of the summer season at the Westacre Theatre this August  playing over 11 characters (including a nun!).

Here’s what KJ had to say about the award and his residency at the Westacre Theatre: “Being able to Represent Drama Studio London here at Westacre Theatre has been phenomenal for me. The opportunity to come and work here as an actor with professionals who are looking to produce high quality shows has been amazing. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience! Thank you everyone at Drama Studio London and thank you to everyone at Westacre Theatre for having me be a part of this years’ Bursary Scheme.’

The Westacre Theatre Bursary scheme is an opportunity for 10 Drama School Students from UK Drama Schools who have to audition and be selected.
